Skydive operations are announced on the CTAF (122.725) and SOCAL 127.3 five minutes, two minutes and one minute prior to jumping. Aircraft should not overfly the airport during these operations. Aircraft arriving and departing should use the standard traffic pattern and follow all noise abatement procedures. Parachutes land in the north fields adjacent to the runway and do not affect normal traffic pattern operations.
Aircraft operating on practice approaches in VFR conditions should use extreme caution to not overfly the airport during the parachute operations and monitor the CTAF. Parachutes operate north of the runway from the surface to 5,500 AGL. Jump altitude is 13,000 feet MSL.
See and be seen. Hear and be heard. Announce your position.
In order to be a good neighbor, the Airport and the Community request that you follow the recommended noise-abatement procedures. Flight safety must supersede noise-mitigation procedures. All FARs apply. Please use the latest information from the FAA.
Cross over OKB at 2,000 ft. heading southwest. Begin descent after crossing shoreline. Turn north, continuing descent to traffic pattern altitude (TPA). Turn inbound (east) when at TPA. Cross over the Santa Margarita River and go direct to water tower. Start 45-degree pattern entry directly over water tower.
Be at TPA slightly offshore. Cross over the Santa Margarita River and go direct to water tower. Start 45-degree pattern entry directly over water tower.
Climb at best angle of climb (Vx) to 500 ft. Reduce power by 100 RMP or 1” MP if practical. Follow San Luis Rey River past the harbor before turning. The most noise-sensitive area is along the north and south side of the San Luis Rey River from the Church, west to Interstate 5. Please do not overfly this area and avoid flying over houses. Use Highway 76 as a departure landmark by keeping it in close view under the left side of aircraft.
Climb at best angle of climb (Vx) to 500 ft. Bank left as early as practical to avoid school/hill. Follow San Luis Rey River to exit pattern. Reduce power by 100 RMP or 1” MP if practical. Pattern is the same, but reversed. Upwind leg will need to be extended.
Please avoid the following activities for noise-abatement:
Please be vigilant for other aircraft. Give yourself plenty of time to orient yourself outside the pattern as a Non-Standard Traffic Pattern is in use.
Expect intensive Shoreline and training traffic. Faster aircraft will need to extend pattern.
Expect marine layer and low clouds directly west. Plan ahead for IFR approach. Closest alternate is KCRQ Carlsbad – McClellan – Palomar Airport. Oceanside Airport is located in between canyons and hills’ turbulence and wind shear can be expected.
Restricted and Class-D military airspace is located directly adjacent to the northwest, north and northeast.
No straight-in VFR approaches. Use the pattern. Intensive coastal traffic at shoreline. Intensive flight training at the airport.
